ISO 14001 Implementation Executive Overview
Purpose:
The purpose of the training seminar is to introduce learners to methods and tools for implementation of an
Environmental Management System (EMS). This course is aimed at company owners and managers who intend to
implement ISO 14001 in their organization.
Duration:
2 Days. Scheduled class time is 8:00 to 4:00 PM.
Training Overview:
The training is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions concerning
planning and preparing for an EMS implementation in their company.
Specific Key topics to be addressed:

The organization and framework of an EMS,
•
Overlap of ISO 14001 with ISO 9001,
•
Establishing the environmental policy for the organization,
•
Identifying environmental aspects and establishing their significance,
•
Establishing and achieving EMS objectives and targets,
•
Records, audits, and evidence of conformance,
•
Developing the EMS documentation, and
•
Strategies for harmonization of EMS requirements documents with existing QMS documentation
Hands-on Training Activity:
Prepare an Environmental Aspect Chart
Prepare an Environmental Aspect Log.

Upon completion of the training the learner should be equipped to:

Explain the purpose of an EMS
o
Identify the five major sections of the EMS system
o
Identify and interpret ISO 14001 requirements
o
Correlate ISO 14001 with ISO 9001 requirements

Describe the documentation requirements for an EMS
o
Formulate an environmental policy appropriate to the organization
o
Identify environmental aspects and establish their significance
o
Design basic tools needed for EMS Planning – Objectives and Targets
o
Identify seven critical areas for effective implementation and operation
o
Explain the processes for checking and corrective action within the EMS context
o
Explain the management review process for the EMS
o
Explain and diagram the path to ISO 14001 certification
